Most students arrive wanting shapes. A deeper backbend, a cleaner inversion, the pose they saw someone hold effortlessly. But the pose is the last thing that happens — not the first.
Long before the body moves, the breath has already decided how the movement will feel.
Start each practice with two full minutes of nothing but breath. Sit, lengthen the exhale, and let the inhale arrive on its own. You are not performing yet. You are listening.
When you finally move, keep the breath in charge. If a pose steals your breath, you have gone too far. Back off five percent and the pose will, paradoxically, deepen.
Do this for a month and the handstand stops mattering. The steadiness you were chasing turns out to have been in the breathing all along.
